Medicare Supplement
Medicare Supplement helps fill gaps in Medicare and is offered by private companies.
What is Medicare Supplement Insurance?
Medicare supplement insurance aka Medigap are policies sold by private companies that can help pay for some of the remaining Part A&B healthcare costs for covered services and supplies.
Medigap plans are standardized, identified in most states as plans A – D, F, G and K – N. All plans offer the same basic benefits with a few offering additional benefits.
What else do I need to know about Medigap?
-Parts A&B must be in place prior to enrolling
-You pay the private insurance company a monthly premium for Medigap in addition to your part B premium.
-Medigap does not provide coverage for outpatient prescription drugs
-You cannot enroll in both a Medicare Advantage plan and a Medigap plan at the same time.
-The best time to buy a policy is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period, a six month period beginning on the first day of the month in which you turn 65 and enrolled in part B.
-If you miss OEP, you may not be eligible to purchase a policy or you may pay more due to medical conditions.
